As friends and avid adventurers, we struggled to find recovery barrier care that reflected our Latinx-Indigenous perspective and met the demands of life outdoors.

Talking with fellow enthusiasts, we learned about major skin health neglect, yet it is critical to staying active. We set out to change that.

Julio, chemist and climber, and Priscilla, backpacker and climber, created science-driven, culturally inspired formulas, field-tested by our community.

Priscilla Lopez

Priscilla is a social impact investment executive passionate about skincare, ancestral healing, and the outdoors. She is a climber and backpacker with deep experience in scaling ventures and a bold vision to reimagine skincare through an Indigenous lens.

CTO, CO-FOUNDER

Dr. Julio Bernal Chanchavac

Julio is a world-class chemist and avid climber. He elevates the power of ancestral botanicals with modern science in all of Tonali’s products. Julio holds a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Arizona State University and is a postdoctoral fellow at the UC Berkeley Kumar Lab and The Schaffer Lab.
